How to Decide If You Need a Transplant
08.20.11

My husband was diagnosed in november2011 with MM and the p17 deletion. He was put on velcae/ dex and his numbers greatly improved. He is not in remission but he has few symptoms, feels good and his numbers are low. We've been encouraged to do the stem cell transplant and we seem to be moving in that direction. My husband is 62 and is 14 years after a 6 vessel bypass surgery. He is overweight and quite sedentary. I am very concerned that the transplant will do him more damage than good - possibly even death. But the doctor seems to think that waiting would be worse. I wonder what Dr Durie would think. Thank you.

Please call the IMF Hotline to discuss your husband's situation. We look forward to hearing from you. The number is 800-452-2873.
