ASH 2005 Webcast - Combination Therapy With Melphalan, Prednisone and Revlimid

Dr. Palumbo reported on the results of a Phase II trial of melphalan/prednisone/revlimid. Though it is still relatively early and more follow-up is needed, preliminary results were reported.

Toxicity profiles were very different than with Melphalan, Prednisone and Thalidomide (MPT). There was only instance of blood clots, although it must be stated that all participants were taking aspiring as prophylaxis to prevent bloot clots.

There was a much higher incidence of hematalogic (bone marrow function and blood count) toxicities, most particularly neturopenia (low white counts.)Efficacy was slightly higher than with the Melphalan, Prednisone and Thalidomide combination.
