VISIONARY AWARD
David J. Brown

David J. Brown has always been a man of vision, compassion and energy. David and his wife, Carol, have 2 sons, David Jr. & Michael. David has 3 daughters, Kelly, Melinda and Michelle and 9 grandchildren. His skills as a builder and developer are found in numerous commercial and industrials parks, as well as in his own retreat at Bootjack Ranch in Pagosa Springs , Colorado . Mr. Brown approaches every challenge with a focus and a passion that allows him to succeed at every turn.

Diagnosed with MGUS in 1998 and Multiple Myeloma in 2001, Mr. Brown faced the disease head-on, learning everything he could about myeloma. He soon discovered the IMF and with their help, began working with Dr. Brian G.M. Durie in the battle against myeloma. Applying the same focus and drive he uses in business, since 2001 David has undergone five major surgeries, radiation treatments, chemotherapy, thalidomide and stem cell transplant therapies.

With the introduction of the IMF’s BANK ON A CURE® program, Mr. Brown saw an opportunity to support cutting edge research and has generously encouraged this research initiative. With Mr. Brown’s vision and support, new treatments and a potential for a myeloma cure are being advanced.

In 1973 Mr. Brown formed Orchard Properties, which has become one of the foremost developers and managers of Commercial Real Estate in Silicon Valley , California .

Mr. Brown received his Masters of Business Administration from the Wharton School , University of Pennsylvania , and was a founding member of the Wharton Real Estate Center. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Claremont McKenna College and served on its Board of Trustees. Mr. Brown's past professional affiliations include the UC Berkeley Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics, the Urban Land Institute, and the National Association of Industrial Office Parks (NAIOP). David is actively involved with Ministry and Community Outreach.
