Dr. Durie graduated from University of Edinburgh Medical School and completed his residencies and his fellowships at the Mayo Clinic and the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Durie co-created the Durie/Salmon Myeloma Staging System, has written over 300 research papers, five books, twelve book chapters. His work has had an impact on myeloma treatment around the world. Dr. Durie is the recipient of the Leukemia Society of America Scholar award and the U.S. Hematologic Research Foundation Annual Award, among many others. He is a Marquis Member "Who's Who in America" and "The Best Doctors in America."

At the International Myeloma Workshop 2009 held in Washington, DC, Dr. Durie won the Waldenströms Award for 40 years of excellence in myeloma. As part of the award, he was invited to deliver a lecture. Introduced by Dr. Kyle, this is the webcast of that lecture.
