The International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) is proud to award its prestigious Robert A. Kyle Lifetime Achievement Award for 2009 to Prof. Jean-Luc Harousseau, Professor of Hematology and Director of the Cancer Center Rene Gauducheau at Nantes France.
The IMF's Robert A. Kyle Lifetime Achievement Award was established to honor an individual whose lifetime body of work furthers the ultimate goal of finding a cure for myeloma, a cancer of the bone marrow. The accolade is named after Dr. Robert A. Kyle, noted physician and founder of the Myeloma and Related Diseases Research Group at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Kyle himself was the first recipient of the award in 2003. Subsequently, the award has been presented to Dr. Bart Barlogie in 2004, Dr. Kenneth Anderson 2005, Dr. Brian G.M. Durie in 2006, Prof. Dr. Heinz Ludwig in 2007, and Prof. Dr. Mario Boccadoro in 2008.
Prof. Harousseau will receive the VII Annual Robert A. Kyle Award at a pre-dinner reception taking place at the Fairmont Hotel in Monte Carlo, Monaco, on May 15 , 2009. Prof. Harousseau is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the French National Cancer Institute and President of the Institut du Cancer Nantes Atlantique. He was a founder member of the Intergroupe Français du Myélome and the Groupe Ouest-Est Leucémies Aigues et Maladies du Sang. Professor Harousseau is a member of the European Haematology Association, the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation, the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He is member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the International Myeloma Foundation. His fields of interest are therapy of acute myeloid leukemia and multiple myeloma. He received the 2005 Waldenström Award for his scientific contribution in the field of Multiple Myeloma.
