After a long life battling anemia, bone pain and fatigue, my mom Joann was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma the day after I had my third child. Since then, though bearing tremendous pain, the fear of losing her family, and the amazing news of remission, she has been the picture of grace.
Her experience—from the trauma of the diagnosis to the freedom of hearing that the transplant was successful—has changed us all and allowed us to fully grasp faith—believing in what we do not see. Throughout this whole experience, we have found the IMF to be the advocate, friend, and teacher that we all needed at different times. From a perfectly placed phone call to endless encouragement through advocates and the latest news on Myeloma, the IMF has been a place of comfort for all of us.
In some small way of giving back, I have been training for a half-marathon in honor of my mom and benefiting the IMF. Please join me as I run for a cure and for increased awareness of this disease.
The Marathon of the Palm Beaches is being held December 2, 2007. I am excited to be running 13.1 miles for my mom and the IMF! To read more about my amazing mom, go to www.caringbridge.com/visit/joannschimpf .
