There has been a lot of activity in myeloma research related to DNA sequencing, says Dr. Durie. "The long-term goal is to identify genetic guides that can point physicians to a tumor's location as well as patterns that are characteristic of its stage to determine and monitor treatment and disease progression in patients."

Dr. Durie is currently working on a paper on the topic for submission to Blood.
