IMFers Light Up The Night

Light The Night®, a nationwide event coordinated by Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America took place on September 22nd in over 80 cities around the country. The event celebrates and commemorates lives touched by cancer – with all proceeds going to support the search for  a cure for Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and multiple myeloma.

IMFer Sheila Field served as Committee Chair for the Orange County, California 3-kilometer fundraising walk and pre- and post-walk festivities. As committee chair, Sheila helped raise the level of myeloma awareness in her local community and, together with several other fellow members of the Los Angeles Multiple Myeloma Support Group, actively advocated for more funding to find a cure for myeloma and related diseases.

Despite the pouring rain, the event provided a wonderful opportunity to increase the visibility of myeloma to a broader audience. Although undergoing chemotherapy in preparation for a stem cell transplant, Kevin Quinn participated in the event along with his wife Dawn and son Will. He joined Sheila onstage as she addressed the crowd, paying tribute to myeloma survivors and offering hope and support to those diagnosed or in treatment.

Through the funds raised by both organizations, it is the hope of the IMF that more resources will be allocated to support research to benefit myeloma patients. We appreciate the involvement of IMF members who are helping to make a difference for all diagnosed with myeloma. Together we can make significant strides in finding improved treatments and a cure for myeloma. s
