FDA Grants Elotuzumab Breakthrough Therapy Status

This week, the US FDA granted elotuzumab breakthrough therapy status — a designation intended to expedite the development and FDA review of promising drugs for life-threatening conditions. Elotuzumab, a monoclonal antibody from Bristol-Myers Squibb and AbbVie, used in combination with lenalidomide and dexamethasone, produced remarkably durable responses, according to data presented at ASCO in 2013. "We'll be very keen to see the results from the latest studies that will be presented in June at the 2014 congress of the European Hematology Association," said Dr. Brian Durie. CLICK HERE to watch an IMF video in which Dr. Sagar Lonial of the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University discusses the phase II trial that supported elotuzumab's breakthrough therapy designation.

Member Event: Red House Carnival in Somerville, Massachusetts

The Red House Carnival fundraiser will be held on Friday, June 6th in Somerville, Massachusetts. Hosted by Julianne Stafford in memory of her father, the event will feature carnival games, food, live music, and a "water pong" tournament. "My dad's superpower when fighting cancer was his triple threat in entertaining: he provided good music, good beer, and a good laugh. He also played a mean air guitar to Jimi Hendrix's 'Red House,'" said Julianne. Julianne's fundraiser, a fitting tribute to her father, will raise funds to support crucial IMF programs. CLICK HERE for information on the event.
