"Chemo Brain" Added to National Comprehensive Cancer Network Survivorship Guidelines

The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) has included "chemo brain" in its updated Survivorship Guidelines, which provide recommendations to clinicians. Dr. Elizabeth Kvale, of the University of Alabama at Birmingham Comprehensive Cancer Center, spoke about the "chemo brain" recommendations at the NCCN Annual Conference, explaining, "This problem is a real phenomenon… we see those anatomic and physical functional differences in our studies that demonstrate that this is a real thing." Take Action to Aid Navy Vets Exposed to Agent Orange x

The IMF strongly supports and has officially endorsed H.R. 543, the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act of 2013, and H.R. 1494, the Blue Water Navy Ship Accountability Act. These important bills would ensure that Navy veterans who served during the Vietnam War and were exposed to Agent Orange, a carcinogen that can lead to higher incidence of myeloma, receive healthcare coverage. Clinical Trial: Transplant and Maintenance Therapy x

Dr. Paul Richardson of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and myeloma patient Dr. Jim Omel discuss a new phase III clinical trial for myeloma patients in the US in a video from Patient Power. Dr. Richardson explains, "The clinical trial seeks to ask the critical question as to where does transplant best belong in terms of timing in the era of novel therapies, and also very importantly, what is the role of maintenance, be it in the non-transplant or transplant setting in controlling disease for as long as possible." Myeloma Marathoner Spreads Awareness as He Runs

Myeloma patient Don Wright has run 81 marathons with myeloma, including one in each of the 50 US states. Last weekend, Don completed his 81st marathon in Nashville, Tennessee. As he runs, Don raises awareness of myeloma and the IMF. In a TV interview, he told Nashville's NBC that there is a lot for myeloma patients to be hopeful about, saying, "The cure is coming."
