IMF Awards New Myeloma Research Grants for 2013
Nine new Brian D. Novis Research Grants were awarded during last month's American Society of Hematology (ASH) conference in Atlanta. The IMF has been awarding the grants since 1994 with the goal of attracting talented medical investigators to the field of myeloma research. Nearly $5 million has been awarded to date, with many of the grants leading to notable advances in the treatment of multiple myeloma. The new grants help to ensure continued innovation in myeloma research for future generations. Click here for a list of the latest award winners and their projects.

Highlights from Annual Hematological Conference
The American Society of Hematology (ASH) 2012 meeting brought its usual bounty of more than 700 myeloma-related presentations, posters and publications. The studies presented at ASH reflected a deepening knowledge of drugs used in the treatment of myeloma and other cancers and of new insights into the molecules and antibodies that hold promise for future treatments. They also demonstrated a growing ability to test, image, identify, monitor and treat myeloma, and an increased understanding of its biology. New and Updated Publications from the IMF
The new 2012/2013 edition of the Patient Handbook, prepared by IMF Chairman and Co-founder Brian G.M. Durie, M.D., for the first time includes The IMF's 10 Steps to Better Care™ which walks patients through the steps needed to learn about the best tests, treatments, supportive care and clinical trials currently available. Also new from the IMF: "Understanding High-Dose Therapy with Stem Cell Rescue," which describes the benefits and risks of high-dose chemotherapy applied in tandem with stem cell transplants; and "Understanding Clinical Trials," which deals with the critical question of whether or not to participate in a clinical trial. Advocates Across the U.S. Unite as One Powerful Team
The IMF is excited to announce the formation of the National Action Team, which will unite advocates from across the country dedicated to state and federal legislation. The new team will work to strengthen support for federal legislation on oral chemotherapy parity, build strong grassroots networks in every state, and raise nationwide myeloma awareness.READ MORE
