Dr. San Miguel addresses the addition of Velcade to standard MP in elderly patients who are not candidates for SCT. There was an overall response rate of 88%, with a 32% rate of CR by immunofixation. This regimen is equally effective in patients with abnormal cytogenics. Responses occurred rapidly, with a 70% response rate after the first cycle. Fatigue and peripheral neuropathy were the most common side effects.
