IMFers Raise Funds For Myeloma Research
08.02.01

Back on the runway

The annual "Fashions-4-A-Cure" myeloma fundraiser returned to the runway with style, showcasing junior and adult fashions by Hartstrings and SteinMart. For the third year, the event was organized by Ashley Barit, now a sophomore at Canisius College in New York, in honor of her mother, Jerra. This year?s fundraiser welcomed a new feature, the "Army of Angels," which enabled those who could not personally attend to lend their support. The "Angels" raised $10,000! To date, "Fashions-4-A-Cure" has raised over $30,000 for myeloma research. Ashley?s involvement with raising funds for research has brought her in touch with many others in the myeloma community and, says Ashley, "Most importantly, it has brought me closer to my Mom."

Acing Myeloma

Dorothy Liener and friends organized their first tennis tournament in memory of Kevin Quinn. "Acing Myeloma" was held in Orange County, CA on June 12, 2001. With rackets in hand, over $2,000 was raised for myeloma research thanks to sponsors Mr. & Mrs. Jess Beim, Ms. Esther Fine, Ms. Amy Cohen, Mr. & Mrs. Richard Sanders, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Champagne Deli Market, Trader Joe?s, Rite Aid, Starbucks Coffee Newport Beach and La Jolla, Marriott Coast Villas and Ralphs Market.

Elvis Sighting in Tuscon

The Southern Arizona Multiple Myeloma Support Group knows how to throw a party! Their 1950s-theme June 9th fundraiser featured an Elvis impersonator and a car show of 85 classic automobiles. The group sold over 650 raffle tickets for a variety of prizes including a $300 basket of toiletries from Dillards Department Store. A great time was had by all while raising $2,000 to benefit myeloma research!

Applebee?s Partners with IMF

Applebee?s has designated the IMF as beneficiary of their St. Louis Fundraiser, held in honor of an Applebee?s employee and other patients with myeloma. During the full day event, participants were educated about multiple myeloma while sampling delicious Applebee?s food. The IMF is pleased to be associated with a company committed to philanthropic activities benefitting the myeloma community. Applebee?s initial donation of $2,000 will support the IMF research grant program.
