Pieter Sonneveld, MD, Ph.D. was born in The Nederlands in 1951. He received his medical degree from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, The Nederlands in 1977. In 1980 he completed his Ph.D. thesis at the University of Leiden, and subsequently he worked for 2 years at the National Cancer Institute in the USA.
Dr. Sonneveld's current position is senior staff hematologist at the department of hematology of the University Hospital Rotterdam and the Erasmus University Rotterdam. He is coordinating a research team of people working on the biological and clinical significance of resistance mechanisms in leukemia and multiple myeloma by cyclosporin and related agents. He is chairman of the National Myeloma Group and coordinates clinical myeloma research in The Nederlands. He serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the IMF.
