Dr Mehta’s research interests encompass hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, the use of adult stem cells for tissue repair, multiple myeloma, and opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patients. He has developed a number of novel conditioning regimens and supportive therapy to improve the outcome of allogeneic transplantation for hematologic malignancies, particularly multiple myeloma.
He has published and lectured extensively on these topics. He is a Co-Editor of the journal Bone Marrow Transplantation and has recently edited a book on multiple myeloma, entitled Myeloma.
He is actively involved in a number of studies exploring the use of stem cells in repairing heart and central nervous system damage.
He directs the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Program of the Division of Hematology/Oncology.
