Myeloma Among Cancers Associated With Lowered Risk of Alzheimer's Disease
If battling a deadly disease can be said to have a silver lining, this might be it: Many forms of cancer (including myeloma) appear to lower the risk for developing Alzheimer's disease, according to an article published by the National Institutes of Health. After sifting through the health records of nearly 3.5 million patients, investigators concluded that most kinds of cancer seem to reduce the risk of the age-related brain disorder by anywhere from 9 percent to 51 percent. Additionally, findings suggest that "some chemotherapies may have a neuroprotective action," said geriatrician Dr. Laura Frain, lead author of the study. READ MORE

Another Win For Cancer Patients Brings Reform to More Than Half of the US!
On July 17, Gov. Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island signed the oral chemotherapy access bill into law, making it the 26th state to ensure that cancer patients have access to all approved therapies regardless of how they are delivered. The IMF and its coalition SPEAC (State Patients Equal Access Coalition) have worked hard to eliminate the disparities that exist in the out-of-pocket costs of cancer treatments.
