Myeloma Survivor Celebrates Life and the Comfort of Friends

Diagnosed with myeloma in 2001 at age 37 and given a poor prognosis, Jonathon Ryan will celebrate his survival this Sunday, February 9, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Cordova, Nebraska. "I never thought I'd live to see 40 and now I'm 50," he says. Throughout the challenging years of transplants, clinical trials and relapses, Jonathon, his wife Phyllis and their four daughters have enjoyed terrific community support. "We didn't do this alone—someone was always bringing a casserole to the kids. It's a wonderful story of faith, perseverance and commitment." Jonathon has helped raise cancer awareness through a variety of activities, including cycling, canoeing and running. But for sheer exhilaration, perhaps nothing tops his father-daughter skydiving adventure, a feat he captured on video and gave to his undoubtedly impressed oncologist. WATCH VIDEO HERE
