Does Aspirin Prevent Myeloma?

Regular, long-term aspirin use was associated with a decreased risk for multiple myeloma, according to results of a study published in the journal Cancer Prevention Research. "This finding fits in with a lot of the research which shows that inflammation leads to oxidation that causes genetic damage," notes Dr. Brian G.M. Durie, MD, Chairman of the International Myeloma Foundation, in his blog this week. READ HERE

Former School Teacher @MyelomaTeacher Shares Her Enthusiasm and Philosophy

What most excited myeloma patient advocate Cindy Chmielewski (aka "@MyelomaTeacher" on Twitter) while attending the American Society of Hematology (ASH) annual meeting in December? "I'm hearing the word cure for the first time," she says in a video interview with the website Patient Power. "I'm not a scientist, but the passion I'm hearing from the scientists here is wonderful," says Cindy, whose ASH attendance was sponsored by the IMF. Cindy keeps her 1,500 Twitter followers updated on myeloma research news and her own daily life experiences. "I am in active treatment, but with the new therapies, I go on with my life.
