Brian Durie, MD, Discusses Diet and Cancer in BBC Radio Interview
Dr. Brian Durie, Chairman and Co-Founder of the IMF, discussed the relationship between diet and cancer this week for an upcoming edition of "The Food Programme" on BBC Radio 4. In his blog, Dr. Durie shares his conversation with veteran U.K. food journalist Sheila Dillon on what science demonstrates are foods to be avoided. Daratumumab Receives Breakthrough Therapy Designation in Myeloma
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted daratumumab breakthrough therapy designation for the treatment of patients with multiple myeloma who have received at least three prior lines of therapy. According to the FDA, breakthrough therapy designation is intended to expedite the development and review time for a potential new medicine "to treat a serious or life-threatening disease or condition and preliminary clinical evidence indicates that the drug may demonstrate substantial improvement over existing therapies on one or more clinically significant endpoints, such as substantial treatment effects observed early in clinical development." 7 Newly Updated Myeloma Publications Now Available in Spanish
The IMF has translated seven recently updated myeloma publications into Spanish. The Spanish-language publications, which include the "IMF Patient Handbook", "Understanding Bisphosphonate Therapy," "Understanding High-Dose Therapy with Stem Cell Rescue," "Understanding KYPROLIS® (carfilzomib)," "Understanding POMALYST® (pomalidomide)," "Understanding REVLIMID® (lenalidomide)," and "Understanding VELCADE® (bortezomib)" are available online and in print. The Patients Equal Access Coalition Applauds New Bill to Improve Access to Oral Cancer Drugs
The Patients Equal Access Coalition (PEAC), which is led by the International Myeloma Foundation, commends Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26th District) on the introduction of the Cancer Drug Coverage Parity Act, H.R. 1801, into Congress on April 26. This federal bill is a critical step toward improving access to anticancer treatments by requiring insurance companies to cover patient-administered and physician-administered anticancer drugs at the same cost to patients.
