In the News: Broad Concerns About Toxic Exposures And Myeloma
A recent blog post by Brian G.M. Durie, MD, "New Study Provides Clues to What Causes Myeloma," struck a chord with many myeloma patients who responded with heartfelt comments and questions. In a follow-up post, Dr. Durie encourages New Yorkers who believe they were exposed to toxins unleashed by the 9/11 terrorist attack to seek screening and follow-up or treatment. But exposure to toxic chemicals isn't limited to those living or working in Lower Manhattan. Dr. Durie notes a recent New York Times editorial on the possible health impacts of exposure to "endocrine disrupter chemicals," such as dioxins, chemicals from plastics and rubber, agricultural chemicals, as well as chemicals in foam cushions and jet fuel.
