Dr. Dimopoulos was born in Paris, France in 1961 and was raised in Greece. He received is medical degree from the University of Athens School of Medicine. Dr. Dimopoulos did his post-graduate training at the V.A. General Hospital in Athens where he was an intern and he did his residency at the Royal Victoria Hospital, McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Dr. Dimopoulos then went on to do his fellowship at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. He worked in the department of Hematology and it was at the MD Anderson Cancer Center where he achieved the rank of Assistant Professor.

Dr. Dimopoulos has written over 50 articles that have been published in peer-reviewed journals. His work includes research on Waldenstrsm macroglobulinemia, the use of combination therapy with Interferon-Dexamethasone and allogeneic bone marrow transplantation to name a few. Currently his clinical research has focused on plasma cell dyscrasia and he recently completed a study on thalidomide and dexamethasone for refractory myeloma. He is also working on a study looking at single agent thalidomide in Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia. He has written numerous abstracts that have been presented at meeting such as the International Myeloma Workshop and ASCO, many of his abstracts have been published in the journal, Blood.

Dr. Dimopoulos is Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Therapeutics at "Alexandra" Hospital, Athens, Greece. Dr. Dimopoulos is a member of the IMF's Scientific Advisory Board.
