Understanding Your Myeloma Diagnosis with Key IMF Publications

Myeloma is a cancer of the bone marrow plasma cells, but what exactly is bone marrow? It’s the soft, spongy tissue in the center of bones that produces white and red blood cells, and platelets. All blood cells start off as young, immature cells called stem cells. Fully developed blood cells don’t live long, so your bone marrow constantly produces them. Red blood cells transport oxygen to the body and get rid of carbon dioxide. White blood cells help the body fight infections and are key to your immune system. Platelets are blood cells that help the blood coagulate in order to stop bleeding. All three kinds are key to a health and they’re all created in your amazing bone marrow! The IMF produces a multitude of helpful, free publications for myeloma patients to better understand diagnosis and beyond. Browse our library of free publications, HERE.
