International Myeloma Foundation Scores Support in Takeda Oncology’s ‘3 Points for Patients’ Campaign Partnership with NBA’s Boston Celtics

Every 3-Point Basket Will Trigger a Donation for IMF Research and Education

North Hollywood, CA, November 5, 2015 – The International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) – improving the quality of life of myeloma patients while working toward prevention and a cure – is thrilled to announce that this NBA season the organization’s research and education programs will be the winners in Takeda Oncology’s new campaign “3 Points for Patients,” which launched today.

Each time one of the 17-time champion Boston Celtics sinks a 3-point basket during the regular NBA season, Takeda Oncology will make a donation to the IMF. With the high-scoring Celtics’ track record, that could result in an additional $25,000 to support IMF’s highly regarded, globally collaborative myeloma research and patient education programs.

“We applaud Takeda Oncology for selecting the IMF as the exclusive beneficiary of this campaign to support our vital work,” said IMF President Susie Novis.  “Even though I now live on the West Coast, I grew up in Connecticut and went to school in Boston, so rooting for the Boston Celtics is nothing new for me!  I’ll be rooting as loudly as ever for the Celtics to run up that scoreboard!”

Multiple myeloma, a cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow, is the second most common blood cancer. In the US, approximately 27,000 new cases of myeloma are diagnosed annually.

“We are proud to play an active role in the 3 Points for Patients campaign this season,” said Ted Dalton, Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnership and Business Development for the Celtics. “By partnering with Takeda on this initiative, we are not only able to increase awareness for the International Myeloma Foundation, but also raise funds that will support research and education for this disease.”
