Crowdfunding Myeloma Clinical Trials: What Could Go Wrong?

There has been a lot of discussion lately about crowdfunded campaigns for cancer research and other aid. Crowdfunding is the act of raising money from a large number of individuals on the internet for a specific project or venture, and IMF Chairman Dr. Brian Durie weighs in on what those types of campaigns mean for the cancer community in a new blog post. West Virginia Is On The Road to Oral Parity

It is a new year, and the IMF Advocacy Team has hit the ground running on oral parity legislation. Thanks to the efforts of the West Virginia Cancer Treatment Fairness Coalition and IMF Global Advocacy Executive Ray Wezik’s successful testimony before the West Virginia House Banking and Insurance Committee, oral parity bill HB 2493 passed out of the committee with only one dissenting vote. HB 2493 would prohibit insurance policies that cover anticancer medications from charging higher copayments, deductibles, or coinsurance for orally administered anticancer medications than for anticancer medications administered by injection or intravenously. Next, the bill will be sent to the House Health and Human Resources Committee, and upon approval there, would be brought to the House floor and eventually Senate floor for votes. The IMF is excited about the progress on this legislation, and we hope to make West Virginia the 35th state with oral parity.
