What's New at the American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting This Year?

This week’s Myeloma Minute comes to you from San Francisco, where the IMF is attending the 56th American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting. In this week’s episode of #AskDrDurie, IMF Chairman Dr. Brian Durie offers a preview of major trends expected to emerge from the meeting, including: fine tuning of novel combinations of therapeutics including Kyprolis and Pomalyst; new details about diagnostic testing and monitoring, including minimal residual disease (MRD) testing; and updated data on new agents in development. IMF's ASH Social Media Team Begins Coverage

The support group leaders attending the ASH annual meeting with the IMF have arrived in San Francisco and have shared their first blog posts detailing the data and events they are looking forward to sharing during the meeting. In addition to blog posts, the IMF ASH team members will share the latest myeloma updates via Twitter (#IMFASH14) and Facebook. Tune in tomorrow to watch the IMF’s satellite symposium live from the ASH annual meeting. The presentation, “Critical Issues Need Answers: Providing Best Options for Myeloma Treatments in 2014,” will feature interactive case discussions with “point-counterpoint” sessions from leading myeloma physicians. Topics will include: when to treat smoldering myeloma; assessing response and minimal residual disease following induction therapy; maintenance therapy; and salvage therapy in relapsed/refractory myeloma. IMWG Conference Series Debate Live from ASH

The IMF will cap off the ASH meeting with Making Sense of Treatment: The International Myeloma Working Group (IMWG) Conference Series, on Monday, December 8th. Dr. Durie will moderate and be joined by IMWG members Dr. Joseph Mikhael, Dr. Ola Landgren, and Dr. Antonio Palumbo to tackle the key questions currently facing myeloma doctors and patients in light of the latest research presented at ASH.
