Diagnosing Myeloma Early: New IMWG Guidelines


 

This week, the journal Lancet Oncology published important new guidelines for diagnosing myeloma early from the International Myeloma Working Group (IMWG), a research division of the IMF. The guidelines allow for myeloma diagnosis to be made in patients without symptoms and before organ damage occurs, using validated biomarkers associated with the near inevitable development of clinical symptoms. According to IMF Chairman Dr. Brian Durie, “This step forward has many important implications, not the least of which is the expectation that earlier treatment will lead to better outcomes!” READ MORE

Alex Meneses Joins the 8th Annual Comedy Celebration Cast


 

Our 8th Annual Comedy Celebration benefiting the Peter Boyle Research Fund and supporting the Black Swan Research Initiative® will feature a mini-“Everybody Loves Raymond” reunion. Joining the already announced Ray Romano, Patricia Heaton, and Doris Roberts will be Alex Meneses, who played Stefania on the hit sitcom! Fall Issue of Myeloma Today Now Available

 

The fall 2014 edition of the IMF's Myeloma Today is available online and filled with news from the global myeloma community. The issue includes interviews with Dr. Sergio Giralt on the role of salvage transplant therapy in myeloma and Dr. Shaji Kumar on panobinostat, a drug in development. Spotlight on Yoddhas, Cancer Support Group in India


 

Yoddhas, the first myeloma support group in India, founded by 29-year-old myeloma patient Rahul Yadav, won the People’s Choice Award for best project in the global Youth Citizenship Entrepreneurship Competition. The competition was sponsored by UNESCO, the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture. In an interview with the Times of India, Rahul shares more about Yoddhas, which means “warrior” in Hindi and has grown from a few cancer patients at its founding in January 2013 to over 2,000 patients (with all types of cancer) and family members today.
