Saving the Planet - and Preventing Myeloma

Research has indicated a clear link between toxic chemical exposure and myeloma, and the number of new myeloma cases is on the rise. Some chemicals have been tested, but others that may have links to cancer have not been thoroughly investigated. In his blog this week, IMF Chairman Dr. Brian Durie questions why there is not a greater focus on chemical exposure, and calls on the myeloma community to rally in an effort to decontaminate our planet and the people on it. New Cast Additions for IMF's 8th Annual Comedy Celebration

 

The IMF is thrilled to announce that Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman, and their daughter Lucy DeVito have joined the star-studded lineup for the 8th Annual Comedy Celebration benefiting the Peter Boyle Research Fund and supporting the Black Swan Research Initiative®. The Celebration will be held on Saturday, November 8th at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre & Club in Los Angeles. These talented performers will join already announced cast members Doris Roberts, Patricia Heaton, Rita Wilson, Will Forte, Lesley Nicol, and returning host Ray Romano for a special performance of "Celebrity Autobiography." Measles Virotherapy for Myeloma: New Clinical Trial

 

Earlier this year, the Mayo Clinic shared exciting results from a clinical trial conducted by Dr. Stephen Russell and his team to test engineered measles virus in myeloma patients. Dr. Russell discussed the approach during the International Myeloma Working Group Conference Series Debate in June. The Mayo Clinic is now enrolling patients in a second clinical trial. Dr. Robert A. Kyle: Myeloma Pioneer


 

This week, medical publication OncLive profiled Dr. Robert A. Kyle, a myeloma pioneer who has improved outcomes for countless myeloma patients and inspired and trained many myeloma researchers and physicians. Since 2003, the IMF has honored an outstanding physician each year with the Robert A. Kyle Lifetime Achievement Award.
