1961 / Class of '98 / Dx at age 37 / Kidney failure / Died 11-99
I'm the wife of Carl Jenkins. He was 37 in January 1998 when
we found out he had MM. It was a shock to us but he was a fighter. He took chemo
for about 5 rounds until his stem cell in September of '98. He had a rough time
but he fought it and was feeling better. He still was feeling better in '99 but
then he started getting tired around May of '99 and I got scared and the doctors
told us he never did go into remission, only cut it back some. So we went to
Nashville in July and they told us that it was back strong again. He had to go
back on chemo. So he started it again in July.
Well, it didn't work, and he kept getting weak and staying
sick. He was getting blood every week it seemed. October was the worst month:
his kidneys started going bad. The Kidney doc told us he had about 1 to 3 months
to live due to kidney failure. We were in the hospital all of November except
for 6 days.
My husband was a fighter. He had the faith that I haven't seen
before. He died on November 26 at the age of 39. He is sadly missed by his wife
of 19 years (that is me, Jackie) and he had two teenage daughters, Carla, 16,
and Samantha, 14. We were by his side when he passed away. He was a great man. I
want to give my prayers to all with this cancer. I hope one day there is a cure.
God Bless you all.
Jackie Jenkins, wife of Carl, 39
