Vast Database of Cancer Patient Records Expands Knowledge Beyond Clinical Trials
The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) announced this week it will create a vast new database of information on the treatment of hundreds of thousands of cancer patients typically not studied in clinical trials. The searchable database will include data on more than 133,000 cases from oncology practices across the country. "We're very supportive of this," said IMF Chairman and Co-founder Dr. Brian Durie. "It's similar to what the International Myeloma Working Group has been doing for over a decade, collecting data from around the world." That data, he noted, has resulted in several significant myeloma studies published in recent years. Clifford A. Hudis, MD, ASCO President-Elect, predicts that the ability of his group to collect data and provide feedback will enable the delivery of "cutting-edge, state-of-the-art care to patients everywhere." Ask Your Congressional Representative to Support Drug Coverage Parity Act!
We need you to ask your U.S. representative to become an original co-sponsor of the Cancer Drug Coverage Parity Act as the sponsors prepare to reintroduce their legislation this Congress. The IMF Advocacy Team has made it easy for your voice to be heard! Just go to the IMF Action Alert page, fill in your zip code, and send an email to your legislative representative. Ask him or her to support the elimination of the disparity in insurance coverage and reimbursement between oral and intravenous anticancer treatments. THANKS!
