I am ever grateful to the International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) for considering our grant proposal for the 2012 Brian D. Novis Junior grant award.   My research, undertaken under the mentorship of Dr. John C. Reed at Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute (La Jolla CA), is aimed at finding novel therapeutics for treatment of multiple myeloma by identifying chemical inhibitors of the ubiquitin conjugating enzyme UBC13. We hope UBC13 inhibitors will have a synergistic action with the FDA-approved drugs such as Velcade, and thus provide new weapons for defeating myeloma. We are grateful for the IMF's support, and hopeful that our efforts will eventually yield new medicines that improve treatment outcomes for patients with multiple myeloma. I thank the IMF for their support and partnership.
