Dr. Kishimoto is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Medicine III, Osaka University Medical School, Osaka, Japan. He was born in 1939 in Osaka Japan. Dr. Kishimoto graduated from Osaka University, School of Medicine, and was a graduate student in the Department of Medicine, Osaka University, School of Medicine, where he earned his Ph.D. He was a research fellow in the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine, and an Assistant Professor at both Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Osaka University School of Medicine. Dr. Kishimoto held a Professorship at many institutions including; Department of Pathology and Medicine, Osaka, Adjunctive Professor, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Institute for Virus Research, Kyoto University, and Professor, Institute for Molecular and Cellular Biology, Osaka.
Dr. Kishimoto has many professional activities, among them are President, International Society of Immunopharmacology, President, Japanese Society of Immunology, Councilor, Japanese Society of Allegology and Councilor, Japanese Society of Immunology. He been awarded numerous times, to name a few are the Erwin Von Balz Prize, Takeda Prize, Asahi Prize, Imperial Prize from the Japan Academy and the Sandoz Prize for Immunology.
Dr. Kishimoto is a frequent lecturer, and is the Editor of on the Editorial Board of numerous publications including; European Cytokine Network, Scandinavian Journal of Immunology, International Immunology, Clinical and Experimental Immunology, Annual Review Immunology, Developmental Immunology, and the New Biologist.
