Here are some possible questions and comments you may wish to consider based on our "CANCER PATIENT STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES."
- Why not save money and improve patient care by reimbursing the best coverage regardless of how it is administered?
We appreciate the steps that have been taken to acknowledge and begin to address the burden imposed by the Medicare donut hole. However, for both public and most private insurance plans this still leaves a two tiered system of reimbursement separating oral drugs from medical procedures (I.V..drugs, stem cell transplants etc.).
- How will health reform continue to encourage innovation?
For many cancers treatment is not one size fits all. Many of us need multiple drugs in combination and in sequence, including drugs still under development.
- Shouldn't we be looking at ways to streamline the drug approval processes for serious, incurable diseases, to get medication to patients sooner and possibly save money at the same time?
In the discussion of health reform, we haven't seen any discussion of regulatory changes, and we believe this is a critical area for meaningful reform.
