Dr. Avvisati graduated as MD from the Medical School of Rome State University "La Sapienza", Italy in 1976. After training in Internal Medicine he went on specializing in hematology at the same institution. In 1990 he obtained a Ph.D. from Amsterdam State University, The Nederlands.
He is currently assistant consultant of hematology at the Rome University Hospital "Umberto I" in the Department of Human Biopathology, Section of Hematology.
Dr. Avvisati is on the Advisory Board of HAEMATOLOGICA, the official journal of the Italian Society of Hematology. He is also a member of many prestigious societies including the Italian Society of Hematology, the International Society of Hematology, the New York Academy of Sciences, the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the European Society of Medical Oncology and the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
Dr. Avvisati's main scientific interests are the role of hemostasis, coagulation and fibrinolysis in hematological malignancies as well as the role of biological response modifiers and clinical trials in leukemias, lymphomas and myelomas.
