Sydney 2005:
Intercellulalar Communication Signals Determined by Gene Expression Profiling in MM
By Bernard Klein, MD
04.11.05
Dr. Klein presented on the identification of intracellular communication involved in MM with microarrays. MM cells must interact with the bone marrow to continue to grow and proliferate. Growth factors in the bone marrow influence the ability of plasma cells to grow and thus influence the progression of MM. Klein and associates suggest that identifying molecules that may inhibit these growth factors may impact myeloma cell growth. By identifying patients with specific genes, Klein and associates suggest that specific therapies may be able to be developed to meet the needs of those individual patients.
