Dr. Shimizu is a Vice President at Nagoya City Higashi General Hospital in Nagoya, Japan, a visiting professor at Nagoya University School of Medicine, the President of the Nagoya Myeloma Cooperative Study Group, and is on the Board of Directors for the Japan Society of Hematology and for the Japan Society of Clinical Hematology, a member of Myeloma Trialists’ Collaborative Group of MRC, UK, the representative of Japan for the International Myeloma Working Group of the IMF, and on the Advisory Boards for the IMF (Japan).

Dr. Shimizu is the President of the 29th annual meeting of the Japan Myeloma Study Group, to be held in Nagoya in 2004. Dr. Shimizu elaborated "Guidebook" for patients with myeloma in Japan and has been playing a central role in the establishment of "Guideline for multiple myeloma in Japan."

Dr. Shimizu received his M.D. degree from Nagoya University School of Medicine in 1972 and completed his clinical immunology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in 1977.
