Dr. Fonseca is Associate Professor in Medicine, Mayo Graduate School of Medicine and Consultant, Department of Hematology and Internal Medicine, Mayo Clinic. Dr. Fonseca completed his Medical School education in 1991 at Universidad Anahuac School of Medicine, Mexico City, Mexico.

Dr. Fonseca is a member of American College of Physicians, American Society of Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, Mexican Society of Internal Medicine, North Central Cancer Treatment Group, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group, and a Fellow of International Society of Hematology.

A member of the Dysproteinemia Clinical Group, Dr. Fonseca has developed an expertise in the management of the plasma cell disorders. His clinical practice is primarily composed of patients with multiple myeloma, primary amyloidosis, monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance and Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia.

In the laboratory, Dr. Fonseca concentrates on the genetic and cytogenetic nature of the clonal cells of the plasma cell disorders.
